THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 2, 2010) – Two members of the Maritime College Athletics Department staff have been selected to serve on committees within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Privateer football head coach and Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations Clayton Kendrick-Holmes will be representing the East Region on the Division III Football Championship Committee. The national committee is made up of eight people total (one head coach and one administrator from each of the four regions – North, South, East and West).
Kendrick-Holmes was selected to the position for a four-year period starting with the 2010 season and his duties, among others, will be to evaluate all teams throughout the season, assist committee members with the selection of teams and creation of the championship bracket, assign crews of officials and staff to work playoff games and attend the championship game.
Also, Maritime Director of Athletics Dick Hack has been selected at-large to serve on the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel (PROP). The PROP has 12 members, six from Division I, three from Division II and three from Division III. In order to be qualified, the member had to have previous service on a rules committee, which Hack has from his time acting as chair of the NCAA men's basketball rules committee.
Hack's duties will include approving rule changes made by each of the 15 committees annually, oversight of rules modification for the sports which the NCAA does not write playing rules, providing direction to the NCAA staff on playing rules issues and providing occasional counsel to Playing Rules Committees when dealing with difficult rules issues.
