Throggs Neck, NY – The Maritime College wrestling team closed out their regular season on Tuesday evening with a victory against Yeshiva and a tough loss against Hunter. The match against Hunter came down to the final weight class, which ended up being 125. Heading into that match, Hunter held a 24-22 lead, and following a pin would end up with the 30-22 win. Against Yeshiva, the Privateers would take four falls and one tech fall along with a couple of forfeits to come out with a 41-0 result.

Junior John Nolan (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) had possibly the best victory of his career against Hunter's Jorge Unigarro (Bronx, NY/Harry S. Truman) via an 8-5 decision. Later in the night, Nolan pinned Shimmy Shira (Los Angeles, CA/YULA) of Yeshiva to go unbeaten on the day.

Freshmen Mark Rome (Metairie, LA/Archbishop Rummel) and Evan Haynie (Atlanta, GA/Creekside), both newcomers to the team as of January, each went 2-0 on the day. Rome took a major decision over Hunter's Rich Perkins (Brooklyn, NY / Heidelberg American) with score of 10-0 and pinned Yeshiva's Ephram Tepier (New York, NY/Ramaz) in 2:15. Haynie picked up a 5-2 decision against Hunter and pinned Jason Schwitzer (Fairlawn, NJ/Frisch) of Yeshiva.

This is a young Privateer team that has faced many struggles through out the season. Earlier in the year, they lost two of their best to injuries and lost a few others along the way. However, next season they will get two well rested individuals back along with everyone currently on the roster as there is not one senior on the squad this season. So things are looking up for a team that finished up the 2005-2006 season with two solid performances.

Before they close the books on the '05-'06 season, the Maritime grapplers will compete at the Metropolitan Championships held at York College in Pennsylvania during the weekend of February 18th-19th.
