The Maritime men’s lacrosse team lost to No. 11 Wesleyan, 14-1, Wednesday night at the Cardinals’ Home-Smith Turf Field. With the loss, the Privateers fall to 1-3 on the season, while Wesleyan improves to 2-0.

A leadoff solo home run by junior Matthew Montanes in the bottom of the eighth inning proved to be the difference, as the Maritime baseball team outslugged John Jay, 11-10, in its season-opener Tuesday night at Reinhart Field. With the win, the Privateers begin the 2010 campaign with a 1-0 record – the first time the program has started the year with a victory since the 2005 season - while the Bloodhounds fall to 1-7 overall.

After helping lead the Privateers women’s lacrosse team to a season-opening 20-2 victory over the Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday at Reinhart Field, freshman Kristen Wilson was named the Skyline Conference women’s lacrosse Rookie of the Week.

Benjamin Pearce
Men's Lacrosse
Maritime College freshman Benjamin Pearce won all three events he swam against Old Westbury Tuesday night: touching first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:22.46,
then the 100-yard free in 1:00.93, beating out his next closest competitor by almost 6 seconds in the short race, and then capping the night off by leading off the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 26.32, which led to a team-victory in 1:44.49.
Caroline Hickey
Women's Swimming
Maritime College junior Caroline Hickey captured the top spot in two races in a meet against Skyline Conference opponents Old Westbury and St. Joseph’s Tuesday night. She won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:34.26, five seconds faster than the next swimmer. She then won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.41. Hickey was also part of a 200-yard medley relay team that came in second with a time of 2:14.64.
